Ōyama Shrine [Okinoshimacho]

The land of myths and tree worship

This giant Japanese cedar tree, said to be 800 years old, stretches into the sky in a dignified manner, and is worshipped even today as the sacred tree of the Ōyama Shrine. In a mountain festival that takes place every other year in April, a vine is wrapped around the tree 7 and a half times. This is said to be the oldest mountain festival in Japan.
